Hello everyone!
I am very glad to have you stumble upon this new blog. This has been a long time coming for sure! I hope that here you feel welcome and curious while reading these posts. Odds are that if you stumbled upon this corner of the web, you are interested in cosmetics – either skincare or makeup. If so, you are at a great place! I promise there is some seriously interesting content coming your way. Before we get to that however, I feel it is important for me to officially introduce myself to you.
My name is Felix. I am the Founder of Adonis Arcana in Boston, MA. I was born in the mid 80’s (ill let you assume the actual year) in central Mexico, not too far from Mexico City. Upon finishing high school, life gave my family and I the opportunity to move to the Boston Metro area. Boston has always had a special place in my heart, even before living here so I welcomed the move with open arms.
I got into cosmetics almost by accident. This is a great story for later, but for now let’s just say that growing up, the Beauty Industry was not on my mind. At all. As soon as I arrived on my first day at a beauty job though, I was hooked. I vividly remember that first week. Thinking WHAT did I get myself into? At this point I knew absolutely nothing about makeup, only used a face wash once a month on average; yet here I was: surrounded by makeup artists deftly using their brush belts stuffed full of what seemed like thousands of different tools that I feared I would never master.
That hesitation was quickly replaced by a true love of what makeup and skincare could do. As I learned more and practiced more, that love grew. I came to know that makeup is one seriously powerful tool: Seeing the ideal version of yourself that you hold in your mind looking back at you in the mirror, exactly as you envision yourself to be is incredibly empowering. This passion has driven me to learn hundreds of brands, working for a few of them at different points in my career, as well as becoming a makeup educator so I could spread this empowerment.
Over the years, I came to see my passion burned the brightest with Male Makeup and grooming. This is a section of the Beauty Industry that has had blips of attention in the past. However, seeing the rise that this section of the industry has had in the past few years has really shown me that I have a special voice and expertise in this space. I believe that masculinity can be enhanced with cosmetics, just like femininity has been. Having been born at the start of the millennial generation and living in two distinctly different cultures, I have seen gender roles shift dramatically within my lifetime. I believe it is time for male makeup to finally arrive, and I am here to help.
I work from a curious and analytical mindset. Looking at makeup as a scientific art has led to a unique way of looking at things that I find will complement the more intuitive style that most artists use. You will find that tone throughout this blog. I feel that the insights I have gained through this vantage point will be unique and valuable to you as you explore what cosmetics have to offer you.
The Beauty space can be an intimidating area, with so many options and so much information going around. This is a big reason of why I chose to start this blog. Many times, when working with someone, a lot of potentially helpful information cannot be shared. At times because time will not allow or because too much information is impossible to process. Therefore, I will be approaching this blog from two different angles: with a post covering the basics of any given subject paired with a separate in-depth post expanding upon it after. If you are new to the idea of cosmetics and want to learn the basics, I’ve got your back. If you are curious about the inner workings and intricacies of the information, look for the matching “In-Depth” post.
At the end of the day, my hope is that whether you identify as male, female or anywhere on the gender spectrum, you may find yourself closer to empowerment with the information you read in these posts. Most of the information I will share here applies to anyone regardless of genetics. Of course, I also welcome your input! Feel free to drop comments and send messages.
